Purpose of Organization:

The Friends of Ames Strings (FOAS) is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to support string and orchestra programs for youth in the community.

FOAS is a parent guided organization that helps raise funds and present opportunities for orchestral string players in the Ames School District.  It also presents opportunities to students from the surrounding communities of Ames, Iowa.

Programs Presented to the Ames Community:

Summer String Workshop

The annual workshop provides approximately 22 hours of instruction to elementary and middle school students during a two-week period in July. The emphasis is on playing in both small and large ensembles. The workshop ends with a concert on the evening of the last day. The program has received support from the City of Ames Commission for the Arts (COTA) and donations from individuals. There is a modest tuition fee.
